LESSON 6

THEME: The Seven Gifts of the Spirit

1.   Narrate the story of Fr Maximilian Kobe, the Polish Saint, and show how the seven gifts of the Spirit were present in his life.

2.   Recall the story of the Apostles and the lame man in Acts 3:1-10.

3.   In the story of St Maximilian each of the gifts was present.

a)   WISDOM: Age had made him wise and he knew that God was all that mattered.

b)   UNDERSTANDING: He understood the agony of the condemned man in that he would never see his wife and children again.

c)    COUNSEL: The solution he gave to the German guard was very good. He knew he was and of not much use to the people; so he agreed to die in the place of the other prisoner.

d)   FORTUTIDE (STRENGTH): He has the strength from God to die.

e)   KNOWLEDGE: He had the gift of knowledge in that he knew that Jesus would have done the same thing were He in his place.

f)     LOVE: He showed love for God and his neighbour in this act of dying.

g)   FEAR OF THE LORD: He trusted God as a child trusts his/her father.

Those who are confirmed are given these gifts by God and they show these in their lives if they truly love Jesus.
