Q. If God is good, why does he allow good people to suffer?

Small children seldom understand why the dentist has to take out their teeth or why their parents refuse to let them play on the street ... as adults they learnt that it was for their own good or perhaps to save them from great tragedy.  We are small children before God... as such we may not always understand why he allows the good to suffer, but we can be sure that it is for their ultimate good.  Jesus Christ was completely sinless, yet he suffered most of all ... we can learn most about the purpose of suffering at the foot of his cross.  Sufferings offered to God and borne in union with Christ “prepare for us an eternal weight of glory (in the next life) beyond all comparison” (2 Cor.4,17).
