St
Peter’s Church Faith Formation For Children (FFC), In the beginning…
The
story of St Peter's FFC in a nutshell is like this:
Towards
the end of December 1999, on the eve of the great Millennium, after struggling
for some time,
I
decided to do something for the Church as a Thanksgivings for all the blessings
i received from God...
I
thought the only thing I can do well is to help at
as
a new comer, i volunteered to assist in Form 1 class...
UnFortunately,
or fortunately, the Form 1 teacher refused to take me!
(and
there was no other vacancies)
SO,
since the church did not need me, that's OK...
Middle
of 2000, Bishop Ha (now Archbishop) who was also taking care of the Parish at
that time, announced that he wanted to start the Sunday School in St Peter's,
once
again I submitted my name on Sunday 4th of June which happened to be
my 20th wedding anniversary. I went to the first meeting, about 20
turned up,
when
i went to the 2nd meeting, Bishop announced that the idea has to be put on hold
because
a new priest Fr Vincent Chin will be posted to St Peter's in year 2001...
There
you go, 2nd attempt not successful.
Well
God, I am ready when you are ready!
When
Fr Vincent Chin came in year 2001 (from Serian Parish), he too said he wanted
to start the Sunday School,
so
I submitted my name the 3rd time in 3 years.
Initial
interested people had a crash course by Paul Voon and Angie Goh over 6 months,
then
we had a meeting, and they elected me to be the chairman of FFC
Committee
(later
when i reported to Fr Chin, he said I was appointed by him),
while
elected office bearers are subject to re-election every 2 years,
appointed
Chairman can only leave when he is DIS-APPOINTED !!!,
Anyway
the Sunday School started in year 2002 with 11 teachers and 130 children,
We
open 5 classes (Kindy, Primary 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5&6) at the adjacent St
Theresa’s Primary School,
the
rest is history (today, in year 2008, we have 40 teachers and 400 children)…
O
MY GOD HOW I LOVE THEE
